To activate a new hotspot using the T-Mobile portal.

Step-by-step guide

HotSpot Info and Instructions


  • Folder Location →  Shared Drives / CCA Tech Dept Shared Drive / HotSpots
    • *Also a folder in file drawer


  • LeAnn – Active HotSpots 2023-24 →  My spreadsheet of all current devices


  • T-Mobile Portal – marked as a bookmark
  • PIN for Account: Located in Keeper


  • Always keeping 2 active hotspots in desk drawer


To Activate New Device using only T-Mobile Portal:

  • SIM Cards in top left desk drawer
  • Remove old SIM card from device and discard
  • Insert new SIM card
  • On Card itself write device # / info
  • Update spreadsheet (2) with current info:
    • When activated
    • When distributed
    • SIM #
    • IMEI
  • Open T-Mobile Portal
    • Log In
    • Go to Dashboard
    • Select BAN from drop-down
    • Select Add Lines
      • This opens Package Builder
    • Select Mobile Internet (instructions state select Voice Lines) [Step 1 of 8]
      • Select NEXT
    • Choose Number of Lines  [Step 2 of 8]
      • Select 1
        • Only 1 SIM number may be activated at a time
      • Select NEXT
    • Choose Your Plan: Step 3 of 8 [Step 3 of 8]
      • Select MAGENTA (1 of 4 tabs above)
      • Scroll down to bottom
      • Select: Magenta – EDU EmpowerED 2.0 MI Unlimited for 20 – GMIEDUNL for $20
      • Select NEXT
    • Choose Your Device  [Step 4 of 8]
      • Search for ‘SIM’ to take you to the SIMs location
        • Enter SIM, then Search
      • Select Activate T-Mobile SIM (In Stock)
    • Enter Information for this Device  [Step 5 of 8]
      • Enter the Area Code
        • 319
      • Select Physical SIM
    • When Physical SIM is selected, enter SIM NUMBER
      • No letters on SIM in portal; Remove the ‘F’
    • Enter IMEI
    • Select NO for moving existing number from another carrier
    • ADD DEVICE
  • On Customize Lines page, may add or edit info (should not be needed)
    • Select checkbox to the left
  • Select REVIEW & CHECKOUT
  • Continue to Checkout
  • Website ‘Terms & Conditions’
    • CHECKBOX
    • ACCEPT
  • Checkout Emails
  • NEXT
  • Select FINALIZE PACKAGE & CHECKOUT
  • Select CONTINUE TO CHECKOUT to proceed to standard checkout process
