If you're having issues with the badge printers (not connecting or printing), this article may help. I will split this into BASIC vs. ADVANCED. These troubleshooting steps are for Windows 10 only.
Basic Troubleshooting Steps
- First, make sure the printer is plugged in and the wifi symbol is lit up. Correct these things if needed.
- Navigate to the Securly Visitor webpage and make sure the secretary is signed in. Go up to the Account settings and click the little printer symbol that will check the printer connection. If the printer is not connected, proceed to Step 3. If the printer says it's connected but does not print badges (either manually or automatically), skip to the Advanced section of this article.
- Turn the printer off and then back on. Then, click on the System Tray (caret symbol in the Taskbar on Windows) and click on the DYMO WebService icon. Click "Stop Service", wait a few seconds, and then click "Start Service."
- Follow Step 2 again, and if the printer is still not connected, proceed to the Advanced steps. If it says connected, test out a print job. If the print job is successful, you're good. If not, proceed to the Advanced steps.
Advanced Troubleshooting Steps
- If you've made it this far, the problem is deeper. First step is to make sure the DYMO printer is unplugged for the next coming steps.
- On the computer, navigate to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on LabelWriter and select "See what’s printing."
- If there is anything in the queue cancel it by selecting 'Cancel All Documents' in 'Printer' tab or right-click on each document and select 'Cancel’.
- Remove LabelWriter from Devices and Printers: Right-click on the LabelWriter listed under the printer heading and select Remove Device (Administrator rights are required).
- Press the Windows Key + R and type in services.msc and press Enter or type ‘Services’ in Windows search.
- In the Services window locate Print Spooler. Right-click on Print Spooler and select "Restart." NOTE: If for whatever reason the option for Restart is grayed out, you can do it through Command Prompt. First, open Command Prompt (run as administrator) and type in the following command: net stop spooler. Hit enter, and then type in net start spooler.
- Navigate back to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. Select (left-click) any printer from the list of available printers and select Print server properties (at the top of the page).
- Select the 'Drivers' tab and choose the LabelWriter from the list and remove it by selecting the Remove button at the bottom of the window
- Select ‘Remove driver only.’ from the pop-up window and select ‘OK’. Confirm deleting the drivers by selecting ‘Yes”.
- Reconnect the Power cable to your LabelWriter and make sure it is turned on.
- LabelWriter should show up in Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers as a printer and should be ready to use.
What should you do if nothing helps?
Test it in a different location and see if the problem moves with the printer. If so, then you'll need to swap out the printer with a new one.
